NEWS & UPDATES
The Running Festival Committee are delighted to announce that Run 4 It is our Principal Sponsor for 2011.

Run 4 It has retail outlets in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee Inverness and Aberdeen and are a leader in the supply of running footwear and clothing.

Run 4 It have been a supporter of the Festival and earlier Half Marathons and are not new to this event, this being the second time that they have taken on the role of Principal Sponsor.

Run 4 It provides a 10% discount on the standard entry fee for either race if this is done in their Edinburgh Run 4 It store on Lothian Road. So if you are in that area why not opt for this form of registration.

To add to this race entry discount, Run 4 It is offering to any race entrant that has a receipt for entering via the Edinburgh Shop a further 10% discount on any items then purchased in the shop. This is a great offer to competitors and a further benefit and support from the sponsor to the festival and its runners.
For more detail on what is on offer in the Run 4 It shop visit their website.

For the second year in a row Starrett of Jedburgh is providing the much need water for the participants. As a major employer in the Town their continuing support is much appreciated.
The water that they supply is for the 5 water stations that are on the ½ Marathon Race and the 3 on the 10K race.

The Wheelchair 10K event looks set to be as competitive as ever and perhaps even bigger in numbers.
For yet another year Dame Tanni Gray-Thomson will be a participant in the event. The race that starts shortly after 10.00 AM from Bonjedward will this year have two elements to the race, the Hand Bike 10K and the Wheelchair 10K. The Hand bikes are becoming increasingly common but are also faster in general to the wheelchair races, so the need to introduce the two categories.
The Wheelchair and hand bike event is sponsored by NGR.

2010 was another RECORD year for entries. Over 1119 participants registered for the Running Festival:
Over 20 in the 10K Wheelie's race.
665 in the Half Marathon (yet another record).
454 in the 10K road race (up over 100 on last year).

The organisers are delighted with this support and hope that this number can be achieved and even increased in 2011.

The date set for the 2011 event is Sunday 30th October 2011 with the two road running races starting at 11.00 am.

Runner 415 The race attracted two runners with visual disabilities. One who has no vision at all was running with a guide, while the partially sighted runner undertook the race without assistance.
Our congratulations go to them both.

We are also pleased to provide additional photographs this year from a local resident who has taken a large number of photographs of the event. We have to thank Steven Somerville for the right to use some of his photographs on this website, namely the one related to the 2010 wheelchair race and the image to the left.

There are many more that can be viewed from varying points around the course. These can be accessed by linking to Steven's photographic web page.

Start line 2010

The race in 2010 had a few in fancy dress although perhaps not as visible as those in 2009. The images below are from 2009 and we are happy to encourage more in costumes to run in 2011.

The 2009 race was enlivened not only by the increased numbers but by the return of R Notman in the Half Marathon running in his familiar fancy dress. Ronnie from Hawick finished in 1 hour 59:59 minutes

The 2009 10K also had its characters with four runners in kilts, again coming from the Borders area. These four were running on behalf of the "Borders Barmy Army" who undertake a range of challenges to raise money for local and national charities.
To find out more about the Borders Barmy Army visit their website www.bordersbarmyarmy.com.
The kilted runners were 1328 Lee Myers, 1357 Paul Mellor, 1107 Steve Mellor and 1203 Ian Hyslop.

Congratulations to you all and thanks for bringing some additional fun to this event.

If we have failed to identify others our apologies, and if there are any groups of runners who have raised money for a special charity we would be delighted to hear from you and raise the charities' profile.

Belfast Marathon and City Chambers We are delighted to introduce recipricol links to other running events where there may be interest and dates do not clash.
